This repositioning has disrupted the established order, relegating traditional producers such as Australia and Canada to the background.

But today, Indonesia has reached a critical juncture: gradual slowdown in growth, prolonged decline in prices, budgetary pressures, cancellation of mining permits, etc. The country is adjusting its trajectory: increasing royalties, potentially reducing quotas, diversifying partnerships.

This strategic shift could open up new risks and opportunities for France and Europe, while redefining the global industrial balance.

The Nickel Working Group report, part of the OFREMI 2025 roadmap, proposes:

- A mapping of the nickel value chain;

- An analysis of China's strategic role in Indonesia's rise;

- An assessment of tensions and prospects for French and European players.

Nickel is a critical resource for many sectors:

Stainless steel (65%): construction, agri-food, industrial equipment.

Lithium-ion batteries (17%): electric vehicles, energy storage, electronics.

Superalloys (5%): aerospace, defense.

Nickel plating and electroplating (5%): medical equipment, faucets, coins.

Alloy steels and other uses (8%): pigments, catalysts, chemicals.

With nearly one-third of the world's identified resources, Indonesia now plays a central role in.
